Exhaust Fan Accessories FAQ
Your guide to a confident purchase
How do I calculate the airflow required for an exhaust fan?
Multiply the room length, width and height to calculate the room volume in cubic metres. Multiply this volume by the recommended number of air changes per hour for the room type to estimate the required airflow.
What does m³/h mean on an exhaust fan?
Cubic metres per hour measures how much air the fan can move in one hour. A higher m³/h rating generally indicates greater extraction capacity.
What is the difference between a ceiling, wall-mounted and inline exhaust fan?
A ceiling fan is installed directly into the ceiling, while a wall-mounted fan is fitted through an external wall. An inline fan is installed inside the duct run and can be positioned away from the room.
Does an exhaust fan need to be ducted outside?
Bathroom, laundry and kitchen exhaust air should generally be discharged outside rather than into the ceiling cavity. The final installation should comply with applicable building and electrical requirements.
How loud should an exhaust fan be?
Noise is measured in decibels or dB(A). A rating around 25 to 35 dB(A) is generally considered relatively quiet, although actual noise also depends on the ducting and installation.
