Outdoor Sensor Security Spot Lights

A motion sensor light detects movement within its coverage area and automatically switches the light on. Most models allow the operating time, detection range and daylight sensitivity to be adjusted.

PIR sensors detect changes in body heat moving across their field of view. Microwave sensors emit signals and detect movement through changes in the reflected signal, making them more sensitive but sometimes more likely to detect movement through thin materials.

Security lights should be installed where the sensor has a clear view of entrances, pathways, driveways or side access areas. A mounting height of approximately 2 to 3 metres is common, depending on the model.

Moving plants, pets, passing vehicles, insects, heat sources and reflective surfaces can trigger false activations. Reducing the sensitivity or redirecting the sensor may help.

A standard sensor light operates using its built-in motion and daylight controls. A smart security light may also provide app control, schedules, notifications, camera features or integration with other smart-home devices.
