Solar lights should be installed where the solar panel receives as much direct sunlight as possible. Avoid shaded areas under eaves, dense trees or south-facing walls where charging may be reduced. The more consistent the sunlight, the better the night-time performance is likely to be.

Solar lights can be suitable for pathways, gardens, entrances, driveways, signage and security depending on the lumen output. Decorative solar lights are usually softer, while solar floodlights and security lights are designed for stronger illumination. Always compare the listed lumen rating and operating modes.

Solar lights can still work in winter or cloudy weather, but run time and brightness may reduce when there is less sunlight available for charging. Performance depends on panel position, battery capacity, weather conditions and how much light the unit has been able to store during the day.
