Smart Globes FAQ
Your guide to a confident purchase
What is the difference between Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Matter?
Wi-Fi devices connect directly to the home router. Bluetooth devices usually operate over shorter distances, while Zigbee devices communicate through a compatible hub. Matter is a compatibility standard designed to allow supported devices to work across multiple smart-home platforms.
Do smart lights need a hub?
Some smart lights connect directly through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and do not require a hub. Zigbee and some other systems generally require a compatible hub or bridge.
Can smart lights still be controlled from a wall switch?
Yes, but switching the wall switch off removes power and prevents app or voice control. Smart switches or wireless controls are often used to keep smart lighting powered.
Can different smart-lighting brands work together?
They may work together through a shared platform, hub or Matter compatibility. However, not every feature will necessarily be available across different brands.
Do smart switches require a neutral wire?
Many smart switches require a neutral wire, although no-neutral models are available. The existing wiring should be checked by a licensed electrician before selecting a switch.
