To choose the right e27 addon, check the fitting type, voltage, wattage, brightness, shape, colour temperature and whether dimming is required. Common bases include E27, B22, GU10, MR16, G9 and E14. Always match the globe to the fitting specifications before ordering.

Warm white creates a softer, cosy feel and is popular in bedrooms and living rooms. Neutral white gives a balanced, practical light for kitchens, bathrooms and work areas. Cool white appears brighter and is often used in garages, laundries or task-focused spaces.

LED globes generally use less energy and last longer than older incandescent or halogen options. They are a practical replacement for many everyday fittings, but you should still check the size, base type, voltage and dimming compatibility to make sure they suit your fixture.

Lumens measure the amount of light produced by a globe. A higher lumen rating usually means a brighter light, while wattage shows energy use. When replacing older globes, compare lumen output rather than relying only on wattage, as LED globes use less power for similar brightness.

Some LED globes are dimmable, but not all. Dimmable globes also need to be used with a compatible LED dimmer. If a globe flickers, buzzes or does not dim smoothly, the dimmer may not be suitable for that globe or the minimum load may be too low.

Decorative globes can be larger or shaped differently from standard globes, so check the diameter, length and base type before purchasing. This is especially important for enclosed fittings, narrow shades, chandeliers and pendants where the globe is visible or space is limited.

Mains voltage globes usually connect directly to 240V fittings, while low voltage globes such as many MR16 or G4 options require a compatible transformer or driver. Always check the product requirements, as using the wrong voltage can damage the globe or fitting.

In many cases, halogen globes can be replaced with LED alternatives, but compatibility still matters. Check the base type, voltage, size, beam angle and dimming requirements. For low voltage fittings, the existing transformer may also need to be compatible with LED globes.
