Ceiling Fans FAQ

Your guide to a confident purchase

What size ceiling fan do I need for my room?

A fan around 48 inches may suit a smaller bedroom, while a 52-inch fan is commonly used in medium-sized rooms. Larger rooms and open-plan areas may require a 56-inch to 60-inch fan or multiple fans.

What is the difference between AC and DC ceiling fans?

AC fans use a traditional alternating-current motor and are often more affordable. DC fans generally use less energy, provide more speed settings and operate more quietly.

Is a ceiling fan with a light suitable as the main room light?

It can be, provided the light output is suitable for the room. Larger rooms may still benefit from additional downlights, lamps or task lighting.

What is the difference between remote, wall and smart fan controls?

Remote controls operate the fan wirelessly, while wall controls are permanently installed. Smart controls may provide app operation, schedules, voice control and integration with compatible smart-home systems.

Can a ceiling fan be installed on a raked ceiling?

Some ceiling fans can be installed on angled ceilings using their standard canopy or a compatible slope adaptor. The maximum permitted angle varies by model.
