Why Buy Spare Globes or a Spare Downlight?

Oct 17, 2025

Modern lighting evolves quicker than you think. LED technology keeps improving, and product lines shift constantly - sometimes every year. A globe or downlight you install today might be replaced by a new design long before it ever burns out.

Even though LEDs have incredibly long lifespans - often 25,000 to 50,000 hours - the product lifespan can be surprisingly short. Manufacturers update fittings to change trims, finishes, or driver designs, meaning an identical replacement might be impossible to find later on.

This can be especially frustrating with downlights, where the visual details matter. A slightly different bezel colour, diffuser style, or CCT tone can stand out instantly against your existing lights.

The same applies to globes. Even small variations in colour temperature, brightness or beam angle can make a noticeable difference once one is replaced. A newer version of the “same” model may look cooler, warmer or brighter than your existing ones - creating a mismatch across your room. Keeping a few spare globes from the same batch guarantees consistency in both look and performance.

Buying a few spare globes or downlights from the same run ensures everything stays uniform - same colour, same brightness, same finish - for years to come. The LEDs will last. The model probably won’t.
