Your guide to a confident purchase

How do I identify which globe base I need?

Check the code printed on the existing globe or fitting, such as E27, B22, GU10 or MR16. You can also compare the cap shape, diameter and pin spacing.

What is the difference between E27 and B22 globes?

An E27 globe has a 27 mm screw base. A B22 globe has a 22 mm bayonet base with two side pins that lock into the lampholder.

What is the difference between GU10 and MR16 globes?

GU10 globes normally operate directly from 240V and use a twist-lock base. MR16 globes usually operate from 12V and use two straight pins, requiring a compatible transformer or driver.

Can an LED globe replace a halogen globe?

Yes, provided the base, voltage, physical size and fitting requirements match. Low-voltage halogen replacements may also require a transformer that is compatible with LED globes.

How do I know whether a globe is dimmable?

The packaging or product specifications will state whether the globe is dimmable. A compatible LED dimmer is also required.
