When choosing eco friendly lighting, consider the room size, installation location, style, finish, light output and any technical requirements. Product dimensions, globe type, colour temperature, IP rating and dimming compatibility can all affect whether an item is suitable for your space.

Check the lumen output, not just the wattage. Lumens indicate brightness, while wattage shows energy use. The right brightness depends on the room, ceiling height, task needs and whether the light is decorative, ambient or the main source of illumination.

Warm white creates a softer, more relaxed feel, neutral white is practical for everyday use, and cool white gives a brighter, more functional appearance. Living rooms and bedrooms often suit warm white, while kitchens, bathrooms and work areas commonly suit neutral white.

Some products are dimmable, but it depends on the globe, driver or integrated LED used. Dimming also requires a compatible dimmer. Check the product specifications before ordering if dimming is important, especially for LED fittings and multi-light designs.

Check the product height, width, diameter and projection against the room and nearby furniture. A fitting that looks right online may still be too large, too small or too low in the actual space. Measuring before ordering can prevent installation issues.

Only products with suitable ratings should be used in bathrooms or outdoor areas. Check the IP rating and installation guidance before using any fitting in damp, wet or exposed locations. A licensed electrician can confirm suitability for the specific area.
